Title: Will bees cap syrup?
Post by: skullring on June 09, 2007, 08:34:12 PM
I was just wondering will bees cap sugar syrup that they have stored in cells?   :?  Or will they only cap honey?  Thanks

Yes they will. They will mix the two also, that is why it is not wise to over feed.

They do not know the difference.  It's just nectar to them.

IF you fell that you must keep track of the capped sryup pepole have told me that a drop or two of green food coloring added will make it visable to the eye. myself i always add a few drops of lemon grass oil to the batch the reason i like to now where the syrup lays is because I also add Fumagilin-B something that i think we will see  alot more of because of the recent nosema strain they have found incomon whith SOME CCD loses.

Let's see, food coloring in the sugar syrup.  Different colors for different batches.  Look, Ma! There's a rainbow in my hive.  Designer honey.  Would you like magenta or Aquamarine?
