Title: Rejected Foragers
Post by: Moonshae on June 19, 2007, 02:02:25 PM
When the gathering bees reject a foraging bee's load because there is enough higher quality pollen or nectar coming in, what does that foraging bee do with the unwanted stuff?

i don't get it....if there is quality stuff coming in..it's the foragers that bring it?!?!?!
and i have never heard bees would be so picky...if they eat our syrup, pollen substitutes and stuff....

Every book I've read say that the gatherers who collect forage from the foraging bees may reject substandard forage if many other bees are bringing in higher quality forage.

they just send the bees that bring in lesser grade to the new location and keep that load. they give them a free sample  and then they know there is better grade avalible. It is called forage fidelity. this is of cource the simple answer version :)     RDY-B
