Title: Catbird eating bees???
Post by: Eve Sylvia on June 22, 2007, 08:29:52 PM
I have a catbird who visits the hive often and ets a bee every time. Is this a serious danger to them? Any advice? Just one bird, we have chased him off, but I can't sit by the hive all day, unfortunately.

Catbirds eat bees - so do mockingbirds.  Unless you've got a flock of them I wouldn't worry about it.  I've got a catbird out there, too, I caught him sitting on the back of the chair I've got out there where I sit and watch the bees.  That's what he was doing, too!  I chased him away, but I love their bubbling song, and they seem to follow me around the garden, so I don't mind them.

Thanks, I've always liked them, too. Just wondered how many bees he can really consume! Glad to know it isn't a serious hazard.
