Is anyone raising the price of honey this year? If so, is it in response to fuel prices, CCD, or other factors? What price per pound are folks getting for bottled honey to the end user in different areas?
Well I really need a new honey extractor this year so I'm charging at least $5 a pound.
Here in the Midwest the price varies. The market determines the end price you can charge and turn a profit. I get $4.00/lb but in the specialty markets (civil war enactments and such) the price goes up to $5.00/lb in glass only jars. The price you can get depends mostly on what is around you (supply) and how much the end users can buy (supply). Looking at the prices around the different venues around my area the mean price was around $4.00/lb and that is what I charge. I found that if I go up to $4.50/lb I lose more customers than the price difference. My thought is to look around your local markets (stores farmer’s markets, fairs etc.) and go from there.

Was in Kroger the other and the 12oz honey bear bottle was around 3.50.
Comb honey was $17.00 a lb.
I am still selling last years honey at last years prices.
One Fle. market is about what I am selling for. $4.00 a lb.

I sell raw, un-adulterated, chemical free honey for 6 bucks a lb. I think the price is right, and I don't have a problem selling it. I think we should all raise our honey prices, we go through a lot of work to ensure the best, we should be compensated appropriately. My 2 cents.
sold honey to day at the farmers market as do I every saturday. $5 bucks a pound with savings insentive for amounts over a pound everybody asks about the cause of the bee problem.everybody wants to suport the beekeeper.many new customers. the problem is everybody cant aford to pay higher prices.I find they wont pay more,for the honey but they will buy more of it ,if that makes anysence. I have more honey sold as of now than i have bees :? I sold 24 jars in one day no advertisement just by word of mouth. They were 8oz. for 6.00 each. Customers are killing for more. Now they are placing orders for quarts at 9.00 each. One guy wants a case. My 4oz. is 3.00 each. These all being in the diamond clear jars. But i have some upside down jars and some quart jars ordered with labels for this next batch in around a month or so. I have probably 10 supers ready in about 3 more weeks and will add more before som of the late beans are blooming.
I have a friend over in Kirtland,Oh that sell her honey for $8.00 a pound without a problem and almost always sells out when she sets up at the markets.
Actually a shortage will just cause them to import more honey which would have been cheaper anyway...
Yeah, but more is not always the best solution. And who wants imported honey, from where ? A lot of my customers want local honey.
