I noticed some chalk brood in one of my hives. How contagious is it? Can I use empty (without brood) frames from this hive in other ones? When they clean all the "mummies", what they do, can I unite them with another healthy hive?
don't worry about it if it's just a bit. i had some and so did a couple of other people on the board. warm weather and good ventilation took care of mine. i have a sbb and cracked the top open when it wasn't raining. have not seen any sign of it in weeks.
if you have a lot of it, the general CW is that you requeen. there are mixed reviews on that.
i used drawn foundation from the chalkbrood hive in others and have not seen signs of the disease in other hives. it doesn't seem to be to big of a deal if you can get it under control.
Thank you for your response. I was thinking about uniting with the nuc with better queen. It would help even more.
