When does the queen start to slow down on laying eggs due to fall approaching? and
Does it get to point at the end of summer when there isn't much of a flow so adding supers is pointless for more honey and
Do the two happen around the same time?
Thanks in advance just kinda curious. I'm in New Hampshire if that helps in answering.
Jeff
Not sure exactly when the queen slows down, but my best flow last year was when the goldenrod was blooming mid to late september.
thanks, just was wondering and it's good to hear about the goldenrod, there's a pipeline that near me that's covered in it.
Jeff
The queen will start slowing down anytime now for fall slow down.
There will still be enough bees for late summer and early fall flows.
Remember, the peak of 40 to 70 thou. bees come along about June.
So with six week life time of bees during this time, the number is still quiet high.
The Queen will slow down slower than she builds up in spring.

I'm hoping for a good fall flow. We are getting some rain now, hope it continues.
i've said it in the greetings forum but the question is here, so i'll answer it again.
many beeks around here "orientate" with summer solctice, and they have for ages so...the bees probably orientate as well, like hundreds of other plants (canabis for one, starts flowering after 24. june)
so usually, the brood nest starts shrinking with the solctice, the queen is rather reluctant to lay eggs in fresh comb, flows are mostly over.
great effect i think is also the location, and the location from where the queen is, a southern queen will act oddly compared to indigenous north queens (both in the north) so having a local breed is also very important.
i hope it helps, although it makes little sense when i read it again.
Thanks, like I said I was just curious, it's a pretty interesting hobby and I think my brother is going to get a couple hives next year because of me.
Last year it was January 1st when it finally went from 50 F to -17 F. Most years, here, it's October.
I had a foot snow in October last year, but it was gone in a few days. If you don't like the weather just a wait a minute.
