I was just wondering how people's bees are doing with the heat wave in the west. My bees have suddenly bearded a lot and I have vented the top for them.
Havent seen either of my hives bearding yet. Was 104 yesterday and calling for 106 today.They seem to be doing alot better than i am with the heat

I moved my bees down to Auburn a few weeks ago and the temperature is 100+ right now.
Casimir whats it like up in blue canyon? the farthest ive had bees up the hill is a place called Iowa hill. not the best conditions year round but there was manzanita early.stayed to late and ended up with honey dew off the cedars afull tasting stuff. there was also pesky bears.hard to find good open space these days RDY-B
108 in Sacramento, 106 in Placerville yesterday. The bees were fine in direct sun. No bearding day or night. I am dying, but they are amazing creatures.

Blue Canyon is overrun with manzanita. Our whole back yard is just manzanita and trees. The temperature is about 20 degrees cooler than Sacramento. There are also more and more people moving up in our area, because it is cool during the summer and they don't find out about the bad winters until its too late. We get on average 21 feet of snow a year and get to even sled off our roof. The bears are a big problem, and in-fact the bears are why I moved the bees down to Auburn. I will write about it tomorrow when I have more time.
Here it's been reaching the mid 90s for quite a while now. We have two hives, the newer one has screened bottom board and no bearding. The older hive has solid bottom board (to be replaced) with extra venting on top, but those bees have been hanging out on the porch during the hot part of the day.

Not much bearding yet. Highs around 95. My hive is in full sun from 12 to 3. With the addition of the SBB last year I have not seen much heat related problems. I have many visitors to my bird bath through out the day.

Lot's of bearding, and to my delight even more capped honey. I'm getting ready to add additional supers. I've got four hives, three of which are producing. Between the three I've got four supers of honey and will add three more this week.
