hi all,

i'm curious if any of you are into royal jelly production and if so, how much royal jelly can a hive make in a year's time?

Tig, in one of the courses I took, the subject was queen production and royal jelly collection.  That is a big job!!!!!  I would like to one day try to do some of this gathering of the beautiful royal jelly, but, I don't know if I would/could ever take the time.  Do so research on it through the internet, I bet that you would find a wealth of knowledge, and good luck, have fun  :-D, job and a half.  I would love to hear if any of our forum friends are doing this too, can't wait for some answers.  Best of this beautiful day.  Cindi

hi cindi,

i've read up some over the internet but the production figures vary widely from 500 grams to 5 kilos per colony per year.  it does seem like a lot of work and one of those " rain or shine or typhoon" scenarios where you have to take out the frames holding the queen cells come hell or high water on the third day!

i've done some splits since my new kona queens arrived and just as soon as i dispatch the order and my old colonies get back in shape, i will move 5 boxes to my backyard to try royal jelly production.  thats why i wanted to know is anyone here has some experience doing this to get advice or comments or ideas.

you could make some royal jelly for your own personal consumption.  personally i don't like the taste because its on the sour side but i've heard its really very good for the body health wise.

Tig, good luck, I admire your ideas.  I do not like the taste of royal jelly either, too sour, but I know that it is excellent for the human health, evidently has some wonderful side effects.  Have fun with the "new job" and I wish you well.  Have a wonderful day, great life. Cindi
