Title: Strange behaviour on landing board
Post by: bbqbee on July 16, 2007, 11:54:33 PM
Today (103 degrees F.) I noticed 1 bee then 1 more strugeling to wipe them selves off on the landing board. They were standing on 3-4 legs trying to rub something off. it took them 3-4 minutes then they seemed fine and rushed in to the hive.

Any ideas???

They're just keeping it clean. You may see dozens of them washboarding at times.

Do you mean it looked liked they were scratching their belly with one of their hind legs, like a dog does, only in slow motion. If so I've seen some of mine do this out side of the entrance aswell. I just assumed that they were knocking off wax from their wax glands even though I couldnt see any wax.
