Title: Change in the Hive
Post by: DayValleyDahlias on September 09, 2007, 02:21:49 AM
One week ago I opened the hive and did a powdered sugar shake..I guess tomorrow I will do another. I removed the queen excluder at that time between the deep brood and deep super.  Since the excluder was removed I have noticed that there is not the congregation of bees that there was last week hanging out at the entrance.  I am guessing that the queen moved up, and that the bees followed her?

Any speculations?

Maybe yes and maybe no.  The queen doesn't have to move up for the bees to occupy the upper super.  By removing the excluder, you just gave them easier access to occupy it.  Lets face it, if you had to twist, contort, and squeeze yourself thru the doorway to get into one of the rooms in your house, you would spend a lot less time in that room.
