Who told you that? I've been using regular old granulated sugar for 50 years. HFC on the other hand, I don''t put in my hive, too hard on the bees.
mgates61. Brown sugar is bad for the bees, has too many impurities.
Regular, that is white sugar or beet sugar is what is generally used. It is just fine to feed the bees these, mixed with water in a sugar syrup, unless emergency feeding, like with granulated sugar not mixed with water on the top of the inner cover or frames, or a hard sugar candy board. Have a great and beautiful day, Cindi

Dont use Maltose.
Sucrose is the best sugar to feed the bees, unless you have some spare honey from your bees laying around....
