Title: Surprise!
Post by: Hopeful on January 24, 2008, 11:21:33 PM
I went into my office in the auto shop I teach today and found a box on a chair that said "Happy Birthday Mr. Fredsky" (no relation to Finsky). The box was a complete deep hive kit from Dadant. Apparently at some time in the past, someone gave this kit to the school, which in turn threw it into storage for several years, only to be rediscovered by the maintenance man who was cleaning the woodshop. Cool! :)

Very very cool have you seen the price on that thing. Well you have a start to your extra hives you want this year. God was watching out for you. We are cold and rainy here and I want it to warm back up again so that the bees from where they came from I have no clue will come back and visit. I have placed a hive between the myer lemon tree and the Orange tree that has blooms on them with some Feed bee patty on the entrance. I have been feeding them there. In hope that when it gets warmer and they decide to swarm they come to my house lmao. They are very gentle girls. I have watched them and put water out for them and have rescued them from the chickens water dish and they have not even stung me. Hopefully since they know there is a source of feed they will come this way. Before it turned off cold and it was nice and warm I would have about 30 to 40 bees on the patty and water dish. I am ordering some lemon grass oil off of ebay. They look to be a cross or more then one hive. As one is very dark with big black lines and the others look like Itailans. The dark ones could be Carnoilians (sp) are they that dark? Anyway fun with bees. They should be able to come back by Sunday.

Who can not wait till April 4th to get her bees. And is desperatly hoping to get a swarm before then as she will really need things to be pollinated before April. She needs things pollinated in March for Squash.
