Title: The road to hell is paved with good intentions
Post by: Understudy on January 30, 2008, 09:43:29 PM
I received a call about some bees. Now the phone call was a little off because I thought he said he had some bees living in an Out House. That he took apart the Out House and moved the section with the bees into a garbage can. He said he closed the lid on the garbage can. Now i was tied up with work and the fair so it would be a day before i could get to them. I told him to crack the lid open on the garbage can. So the bees could fly in and out.

Well I went by today. Here is the story. He had the bees in an Owl House. He was taking down the owl house from the tree. He took it down wrong and it swung hard against the tree. All the comb inside broke. He had also wrapped the box in a plastic garbage bag. He then put the owl box which was in the plastic garbage bag. He then closed the lid on the garbage can. The bees were in there for three days.

Buy the time a got to them only a handful were still alive.

No pictures. To depressing.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

An owl house is a duck box that discriminates.

Very depressing. Hope you told him how wrong it all was. Knowing you, I am sure you told him something.

I had a swarm call that I taked about on the forums here: http://forum.beemaster.com/index.php?topic=9806.msg63218#msg63218

You want to yell and scream and berate but things are done out of ignorance, we can only educate and help people to realise their error so that perhaps it won't be repeated again. That was a real bummer Brendhan.

JP, I can't read about your swarm call, I think it would be too upsetting, judging by your comment, such a shame, eh?

Brendhan, yep, it is sad that so many people don't realize how things can negatively impact critters of this world.  It is a sad thing, it is life, but why can't it all be coffee and roses?  Have a wonderful and great day, Cindi

Brendhan,

Last year I received packages from a supplier that said he mailed 4 packages, the post office put all four in a garbage bag to 'relieve' some of the postal workers anxiety about the bees.

The buyer, upon arrival at the post office, found all four packages dead from the 80 degree heat.

[...to 'relieve' some of the postal workers anxiety...]

You'd think they could just shoot somebody instead and feel a lot better.

Jeff, now doesn't that just suck.  Some people just don't get what things are all about.  They really need some informing, now don't they.  Have a great and best of this day, Cindi

One year I found mine in a canvas mail bag on the dock in the sun.  They saw a bee on the outside of one of the packages and thought they were getting out...

One package was almost all dead, the other was half dead...

Thats a bummer.  I agree, many individuals need to be better informed.
