Post by: doak on February 13, 2008, 02:53:43 PM
Fixing to get started with spring chores.
Yes, I'm O.K.

Who has been trying the Russian Bees?
Are they Gentle and prolific?
Thinking of going that route.
I will also try to get a couple new Queens from my Ferrel colonies.

Happy Bee-ing and God Bless
doak :) ;)

Yes he does, and it's well worth a trip to Lula, Georgia to pick some up!  Gentlest bees I've ever seen.

i started with russians.  they were great bees to start with.  so easy to handle.  unfortunately, they are spendy, and after several evolutions of queens, i doubt i have much of the russian genes left.  they also produced a lot of honey for a first year hive, but it was a good year so i'm not sure what to make of that.

happy v-day to all. just got back from the store and had to buy my own candy.   :(  hubby is romping around Thailand again.  boy do i have a honey do list for him when he gets back!!!!

I'm a Russian devotee.  Certainly they have their pros and cons, but they seem to be very resistant to mites, and as far as I know, there has been no evidence of CCD in Russian colonies.   I have not treated with chemicals since I changed to Russians 5 years ago, and my mite count every year is minimal.
