what should a new person do with starter strips and a wax tube fastener but until I can make some wax I have none. If I buy a few pounds of wax from any source does the heating kill all the nasties

I can't answer the killing of the nasties part, but I can give an alternate option in gluing the strips in. Just a few drops will do it. I did this with my TBH.
The wax you buy is probably no worse than the wax in the starter strips.
Can I just use parafin to get started or if I just glue them what kind of glue should I use

Check out this blog for help on placing the starter strips into the frames
Annette
I wouldn't use paraffin. Worst case just melt a couple of your starter strips. I assume you have grooved top frames?
yes I have grooved top frames and to Annette I watched Linda's videos awhile back. that is why I decided to go this route.

I've used glue in the past. It works fine. Used an imitation Gorilla Glue.
Gorilla glue is what I used also.
