How do you tell drone bees and the cells from the other bees?

size.  both the cells and drone bees are distinctly bigger than your worker bees.

you'll know em when you see em.

Unless you have a laying worker then there will be drones laid in worker cells. Worker cells have flat caps on them. Drone cells have dome caps.
