Hello i have been just searching around when i came across cedar glenn website. And they are showing some really good bees and they are carrying buckfast and old world carni's and they claim that sue colby uses them to make her nwc you have to read it for your self but i am going to call them and see about these Old world carni's they claim they do not swarm as much as the hybrids and they are a darker color if anyone has had any of these bees i would like to know if they were good.

Tom, I am getting some New World Carniolan queens at the end of April. They are coming from Strachan Apiaries in northern California. The Strachan apiary has been working with Susan Colby to breed mite resistant hygienic bees.
One of the large queen breeders in our Lower Mainland is ordering quite a number of these queens, he is importing them from California and I am purchasing them from him. I trust his judgement with queen selection. I trust these will be great queens.
I am very partial to the Carniolan breed. My first two years of beekeeping I had Carniolan, last year I had 4 nucs and 4 packages, all with Kona Italian queens. I have had the two breeds to compare and my choice is definitely Carniolan. THey don't gum up the hive with tons of propolis, like the Italians did. The Italians made a horrible mess of their hives with so much propolis. I actually did not like that trait very much. I will be using a hive for propolis harvesting (or maybe a couple of them, the Italians), so that is good if they like to gather propolis.
Anyways, I will have New World Carniolan and Italians this year. They both have wonderful attritubes. Just my little two cents into this great big world of the bees, have a great and wonderful day, love our life. Cindi

Cedar Glen is just down the road from me--30 miles. I got 4 packages from them last year and I'm getting a package of OWC's for my daughter from them this year.
