Title: Bucket for swarm trap ?
Post by: malabarchillin on March 24, 2008, 07:43:58 PM
Search the archives and did not find answer.
Is a 5 gal bucket with small hole in lid and lemongrass acceptable for a swarm trap ?
I just built a extra nuc to use as a trap, but buckets are much cheaper. Because of moths and lack of old comb (new guy) I was thinking it was mostly a matter of volume, dark, placement and lemongrass oil.
Thanks
Mike

i had the same idea but it will need refining. first the plastic would have to have a coating like paper pulp with a water proof adhesive as a binding agent.
the coating would have to be both inside and out.
there would have to be entry holes at the bottom and a few up next to the lid.
after that was done to the bucket i believe it would work.

thats my idea about this, let me know if you do it and it works so i can stop spending money on the commercial traps.

Joe Waggle on http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/FeralBeeProject/ and http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeod3nx/index.html has used them with success.  I think there may be some pictures somewhere on one or both of those sites.
