Title: New to Bee's
Post by: scline74 on March 28, 2008, 11:28:26 PM
 Hello,

I am new to beekeeping and just trying to get some info before I start purchasing. I was wondering is it possible to capture a swarm via some sort of baited trap . I probably wont get started this year from what I have read it is getting late . I am located in a very rural area of North Carolina and have seen several honey bees this year . I am surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland . I am not completely against buying a swarm but would rather not. Any advise would be appreciated . Thank You for your time.

It may be late to purchase package bees, but definitely not too late to catch a swarm! Get your equipment, place your name with local fire dept, police.and agriculture ext. office your interested in swarm captures.  Get a swarm trap with swarm lure and you might be in business pretty darn quick!  Give it a go,you still have time.Swarms are just taking off I think in your area, and a swarm is really ready to build a new colony.
