Title: old pollen and hygiene
Post by: jsmob on April 01, 2008, 11:47:16 PM
Hi everyone!
I had my bees over winter in two deep supers. In the lower super, there was a couple of frames that had old moldy pollen in them. The bees were pulling it out and throwing it out the front door . So I thought all was well. I went back in and looked today and you can see where they chewed the comb out but have started filling honey in and around what is left. Should I take some kind of proactive action, or will they take care of this and not get sick from it? Thanks for your help.

Js mob.  I would not worry one little bit about it.  The bees know what they are doing.   Have a beautiful, great day, Cindi

"There are a few rules of thumb that are useful guides. One is that when you are confronted with some problem in the apiary and you do not know what to do, then do nothing. Matters are seldom made worse by doing nothing and are often made much worse by inept intervention." --The How-To-Do-It book of Beekeeping, Richard Taylor

Yes, this is what you should do. Since this hive is exhibiting wonderful hygienic traits, you should give the hive to me, so I can continue to monitor them!!! Bahahahaahahaah!!!

Let these bees be bees, they are doing great things, I like this hive, any hive that does what they are doing, keep them!!!
