Title: Preventing chilled brood
Post by: heaflaw on April 14, 2008, 10:29:43 PM
I just split a hive that had queen cells.  I made three new hives each with one queen cell with brood, another frame of brood, one of partial pollen and one of honey.  I put in enough bees to cover about three frames.  It's supposed to get unseasonably cold: down to mid 30's tonight and 32 tommorrow night.  I put on a entrance reducer and a sheet of plywood under the screened bottom board.  Am I going to have chilled brood and can I do anything else about it?

If there are enough bees to thickly cover all the brood you should be fine.
