Four out of five of my hives survived the winter. I lost my heaviest hive and suspect that the hive became queenless. I thought something was wrong because it was just too heavy in late winter. My strong hive is busting at the seams. The hive is made up of one deep and two mediums. A couple of days ago I put two drawn supers above the excluder and the bees have already moved up into the supers and have nectar from apple trees and redbud. Autumn olive,an invasive species, is now blooming and has abundant nectar. With the right weather and no swarming I might soon have the first crop of the season. Last year it was in June before my hives became strong.
