Title: New package installed
Post by: 2-Wheeler on April 23, 2008, 10:25:47 PM
This past weekend BeeGood (my better half) installed her new bees. For the most part everything was trouble free. But for some reason there was no candy behind the cork in the queen cage. She couldn't remove the cork or the queen might escape too quickly and be rejected, she couldn't leave it in, or she wouldn't get out. Thinking quickly, she ran back to the house and grabbed a marshmallow and pushed a piece into the hole where cork was.

We didn't have much time to ponder other solutions, but what is the recommended way to handle that situation?

I put some video and pictures over on her blog site. See the link below.

There are California cages.  They don't have candy.  You can direct release, put a marhmallow in, buy a candy tube and put it on, or just put the cage in and come back in four days and release the queen.

The packages I got were the same, although my selller gave us a baggie with marshmallows to use :) :) Jody
