Post by: Paul H on May 02, 2008, 10:34:28 PM
Is there a preferred time of day to install? Morning, afternoon, evening?

I installed my last five packages between 7:30pm and 9:00pm.  No issues except it was hard to see near the end of it all.

and the answer is: One hour before sunset. At least that is what Steve Taber of www.honeybeegenetics.com told me to do, I did, all went well!

An hour before sunset is probably an excellent time.  But if you have 30 packages to install, you'll have to start earlier than that...

My .02. on a package install, I don't think it really matters what time of day cause the bees have come a long way from where ever it was they came from, so they have no choice but to orient right where you install them.

One advantage I could see doing it late evening though would be to decrease the liklihood of drifting if you are doing more than one package install.
