I have two hives that I want to requeen for next year, I would like to get a different breed of queen then the hive. Can you do this???? Will they take a different breed of queen?? :?
Yup! There have been some minor reported issues with interracial requeenings, but it works fine most of the time. It will be 3 weeks after requeening before you start seeing the new bees, and at least 6 wks before the old bees are gone.
Its be legal since the 60's!! :) :) :)
I've do it and it's interesting to see the two distinct colouring emerging from the same hive.
cool, i plan on doing that this fall... Thanks guys for the help
I have only had hives for 3 years ,,,,,, but what I understand is that ,, the Italians acept a new queen of another race better then most others.... was told thats why packages are Italian with a queen of what race of what you want ....
was told ,,, Russians are hardest to requeen with another race queen ...
the kid
>Can i put a Carniolan Queen in a italian hive?
Not a problem.
The only race issues in queen introduction is that other races are difficult to introduce Russian queens to.

I introduced Russian queens to NWC bees last year without a problem.
