Title: A swarm!
Post by: Kris^ on May 08, 2008, 10:35:35 PM
First (?) one of the season.  It came from the full hive the other beek gave me last Friday, and landed about six feet off the ground in out apple tree.  Kinda small, about the size of a package, 3 or 4 lbs.  I got an empty deep on a cart and just shook them in.  By nightfall they were all snuggled in, so I closed up the entrance and wheeled them around to sit with the others.  We'll see how it works out.

That's hive 10, of 10 I didn't have 3 weeks ago.  I'm beginning to feel a little overwhelmed all of a sudden.

Yeah .... it happens like that - you have nothing to do then all of a sudden you're looking around for every super you can find.

If you end up with more hives than you want, then start thinking about the genetics you don't like (hot, unproductive etc.) and dequeen them and combine them with other hives.
