This is probably very off topic - or maybe not! I installed two tubes/ packages of bees tonight with my husband - our five children aged 3 years - 15 years with us. I have to say it was the most wonderful and the most seriously cool thing I have done in a LONG time :) WOW!!! Isn't it the most amazing thing to experience? To be surrounded by all those bees and to to i them into the hive :)
To have my three year old (who refused to wear his veil and hat by the way) just standing amongst them all looking into the hive and experiencing it all......it was just so wonderful :)
I'm so glad we got two hives. The first hive was kind of a practice run and then by the second one we were seasoned beekeepers and it was as if we knew exactly what we were doing! ;)
Beemaster - thanks so much for your Youtube movie - I've watched it a thousand times and have to say it helped so much!!!!
Thanks everyone for all the advice over the last few weeks - today went really well and much of that was because of this forum :)

I understand how you felt. It is a definite adrenaline rush and I got it today also, because today I hived a package of bees. The first time I did this was 3 years ago, and so it was a wonderful feeling. It really went so smoothly for me also.
I cannot imagine your 3 year old just standing there so close and looking into the hive of bees. What a brave kid!!
Good luck with the hives. What a great experience for your entire family
Sincerely
Annette
Isn't it a wonderful feeling? Wait till you see capped brood! Then you'll be a grandma! That's great about your 3 year old, sounds like my daughter was, not afraid of anything & thought she could do anything..hence my grey hairs & nervous twitching! :-x Congrats on your new family additions. I love sitting out & watching em come & go, see the color pollen they bring in, wonder if it's "my bee" I see on flowers! Their little legs are so cute as they scamper in & out of the hives! Enjoy! Jody
That is cool, my three year old is the same way not afraid of nothing. He goes right up to the hives, and he has been stung by those little girls.
Janemma. When I read these posts of people's first experiences with bees, my serotonin levels go up, that may sound weird, but I can feel it. I get that feeling of euphoria, it begins right from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. It makes me feel so good. That is why I encourage our forum friends to tell their experiences with the bees. I know that if I get these types of beautiful feelings, others will too, and it can do nothing but make this world a more lovely place.
I know that feeling of hiving packages, and yes, girl, there is nothing on earth like it, one of a kind!!! You (and others) have entered the beautiful world of the honeybee. There is no other description for it but beautiful. You will hear kind words, others are experiencing the same thing as you, and it is nothing short of wonderful and beautiful. Sunny days, watching the bees, listening to the sounds of the hives, the scents of the hive. You ain't seen nuthin' yet, have the most beautiful and wonderful day, Cindi
