Title: Tulip Tree
Post by: josbees on May 13, 2008, 09:48:35 PM
I have two huge tulip trees with giant blossoms and lots of nectar.  I'm hoping my girls will like these.  Does anyone know if this is a bee favorite?

Are you talking about poplar trees? If so, the bees love them.

Where are you? Set your location in your profile so that everyone will be able to give you more specific advice.

There are two species of Liriodendron in the US.

Liriodendron tulipifera is a US native, and pollinated by assorted beetles. It's also the host plant to a few species of Swallowtail butterfly.

Liriodendron chinense as the name suggests is native to Asia, where Honey bees are native.

I don't know if bees stay away from Liriodendron tulipifera but I would say they're more likely to work L. chinense.
