Title: shrinking foundation
Post by: Kathyp on May 14, 2008, 06:46:16 PM
in one of my bulk buys last year i got boxes of unused foundation.  i have no idea how long it had been stored.

the foundation seems to have shrunk.  the wires on the ends are exposed and it does not fit as well in the frames as i'd like.  it's still usable and i have just glued the loose pieces in with wax.

i like bulk buys, but will remember in the future to only buy what i think i can use in a year or two.  the stuff i purchased new last year is fine.

Are you sure it's not shallow foundation that you're trying to put in medium frames?

i'm sure :-).  it's just shrunk back a bit along the wires.  it's only a tiny bit, but enough that the ends of the wire need to be snipped.

I wonder how old that foundation is--that's the way you used to get it back in the 60's.  Always a little extra wire on top and bottom edges, the extra wire on the bottom bar side seemed to help it stay in the slot better.
