Title: balsa wood
Post by: octagon on May 18, 2008, 10:48:56 AM
I have boxes of balsa wood left over from the days of flying RCPs, has anyone ever used it in place of popsicle sticks in a foundiationless frame..
i'm wondering if it would be strong enough as it's not as tough as a popsicle stick

the strength of the comb comes from the way the bees fasten it to the frame. balsa will be fine as a starter strip once the wax hardens and is finished in the frame.

I agree with Mark.  Plus - Balsa wood is still very strong compared to the strength of the comb. :)
