I just got through extracting a total of 48 pounds of honey. This is from 17 frames. I do not know if this is good or so so but it's my first ever.
Big timers, look in your rear view mirror. Do you see that ? It's me on your trail. :-D

that's pretty impressive for your first year! hope you left a little for the bees :-)

Yes Ma'am I did leave more than I took off. This is honey from the 2 hives I got last July. I bought 2 more and caught a swarm this year and they won't be touched until next year.

48 lbs down, 172,000 lbs to go!! :roll: I still can't imagine trying to handle the 80,000lbs of honey that you might get from 1000 hives...but then again with ...what...$30,000 of equipment? then it might be easier.
Nothing beats that first honey that you get from your hives to be sure!

As a matter of fact though, I think you will be getting more honey as the season goes on. I dont really know this for sure( I mean, as a "Fact"). What i do you is that last year, I extracted honey 3 or 4 times. Not over 10 frames at a time I dont think though. Keep in my I didnt really know what I was doing......just like this year I suppose....I just got my extractor out and spun some honey when it occurred to me. Also, I fed my bees all summer pretty much(and they kept eating it). This year they are on their own now.
Well....Whats the populous think? Do you suppose Gerald will get more honey?
Oh yeh,...by the way....I snuck some honey out of one of my hives ;)......It was HEAVENLY!!!!!

The two hives I pulled from are built up from last year and I probably will get more from them. But If it looks like they need it I'll leave it. If thats the case then the Big Boys have a reprieve from the devastation of having me catch them this year. :-D :-D :-D

go for it, there's nothing better than a jar of honey that says, "made in America"
Way to go Gerald! Congrats. I also have a hive that is in it's second year and have yet to get any honey out of it. The hive looks good, lots of bees, brood, pollen, and honey in the two brood boxes.
I'm hoping that those of us in Southwestern Virginia will get what you got in about two weeks. :-D
