Title: Difference beetween queen, supercedure, and swarm cells?
Post by: johnnybigfish on May 20, 2008, 07:36:43 PM
Ok,...I was just reading the post about the bizarre season and queenlessness.I have a question which i'm sure has been kicked around before in the forums, and it concerns the types of cells.
What is the difference between the queen cells, supercedure cells, and swarm cells? I'm not talking about how they look, i'm curious about how these cells are different in regards to all being used as catalysts for a new hive, such as making splits. Can all 3 types of these cells be used in making splits?

Would I ?
Swarm cell in a heart beat!!
Supersedure cell never---- Why set one hive back to make another . Bees make supersedure cells becouse something is wrong with the queen and she need replacing..

Hmmm,
In that case, I would think a supercerure cell would be even better as the bees made it to replace the queen with a better queen.

You have to be the judge, if you can.
With that said, if it is from a queen that you know has a good record.
A super good queen can start approaching failure and the bees know it.
Flip side is, if you know nothing about the queens history then it is a crap shoot.
Just because they are replacing her doesn't mean she was always no good.
