I just finished making this platform for my hives. I needed it to be aesthetically pleasing for the neighbors
I see we have plans to expand the number of hives? (empty space on the end)
Steve
I'd make sure the skirting is closed tight or you may have a bee colony moving in under there! ;)
Here's one from my yard at the house. Harvesting from a ladder gets old, so build your stands lower to the ground, as M.B. suggests.

Here's another one.

Hey Steve!
You just cant imagine how much that looks like the back of my house!
Even with the little square cut out of the skirting...Was that to get access to the electric outlet under there?
I dont have my hives in the same place tho,..mine are obout a hundred feet out from the house in the woods.
I would post a picture to show you but my conputer broke last weekend and i lost ALL of my pictures..hundreds of them! I lost years of email addresses too...bummer.
My new hive stands are just like yours except I used 4x4's for the cross pieces that hold up the hives.
your friend,
john
As a matter of fact Steve, If I remember, I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it. I have to start pics sometime,. huh!
Steve, well, I would say that you have done a great job of making this an aesthetically pleasing apiary. Good for you, your neighbours will appreciate it (we hope, eh?). Nice job.
JP, you have great looking set ups going on there too. See, all you had to do was work a little harder, and now you are showing up pictures (come on lazy guy, keep on keepin' on!!!!).
John, eeeks!!!! Now wouldn't that frost ya kabitskers!!!! All those pictures gone by the wayside, I am sorry to hear that. That is instilling a thought with me and I need to carry through on this. I have to back up the pictures on my hard drive, that is where my pictures are stored, and I would be a cryin' girl if I lost all my stuff. Those computers sure can be naughty things when they decide to take a trip to the wild side. Bad, bad, bad. Have a wonderful day. Cindi
John that was for the dish network satellite (Previous Owner). Would welcome seeing a picture.
Cindi you haven't seen anything yet. Wait till you see the flower garden thats planed to go around and in front. The wife was picking out bee friendly seeds to day at walmart. COME ON THE SUMMER !
We are actually going to camouflage the hives by putting some flower beds in so as to distract the eye away from the beehives and more of OH WOW what pretty flowers !
Cindi, sometimes imageshack lets me load them sometimes it doesn't, even if they say jpeg at the end of the file name. It gives me a headache.
Computer challenged, JP
JP, that is strange. I used to have problems upon problems with ImageShack, but things are now OK. Why don't you put a question in the computer tech forum? It sounds like you may need an answer here to help you out. I bet one of our forum friends could help ya. Good luck, best of a great day. Cindi
(Keeps very quite about his day job ).... Computers is only a word used 9-5 and on week days if the BAT phone isn't used....
Brendhan gave me some suggestions there. I will look into it.
Sincerely, JP

Perhaps you already figured out this problem. Dane Branage one of our forum members turned me on to "tinypic.com". It works really well and this is how I now post my photos. Haven't had problems with this website.
This is a beekeeper up the block who took this photo.
But you can see how nice and large the photos are. You get to the website and first resize the photo to 640x480 - (it says message board size) Then you click on browse and choose one of your photos. It will pop into the space called "file"Then you press "upload". Then you come to a screen and choose the message board size. You click on it and it copies the photo. So when you come to this forum and want to post. You just paste the image and there you have it, a nice size photo that is acceptable to the forum. I always suggest you preview your post first to see if you like it.
Let me know what you think
Annette
Just realized that this photo should probably be posted on another forum. Oops!!
Thats a great picture!
Hey, Annette, I am going to give that program a whirl and let you know that I think of it. My pictures that I ever want to post on the forum are already resized to under 100kb, so using this program should be even more of a snap, going now to give it a try. Have an awesome day, Cindi
Wasn't that just the best picture of the bees against the blue sky and the vehicle, beautiful!!!!!
They are a beekeeping couple with 65 hives up the block from me. They are extremely busy with full time jobs and do the beekeeping at night and weekends. I worked with the guy my first year as a beekeeper and he showed me some stuff, but they really are way to busy to help me anymore. They bring their hives to the almond orchards every year and that photo was taken by the wife next to their durango suv.
Yes, let me know what you think of tinypic.com
Annette from still cold Placerville. Sorry for complaining but I am spoiled here with the weather.
Annette, I dabbled a little with the "tiny" site. Didn't get too far, I like my system where I copy particular pictures into a folder on my laptop that I use for special pictures and then I resize them there using VSO. Then whenever I am ready to put a picture into a post I use ImageShack on the forum I just upload through ImageShack. I find this simple because ImageShack is always sitting right in the forum when I want to use that program. Seems to me that if I wanted to use the "tiny" program I would have to activate it, upload to it and then paste. Seems like an extra step, unless I am missing out something simple here. Have an awesome day. Cindi
One thing I have been meaning to do, is post some pics of my apiary. I'll update it again at the end of summer when I have my new apiary location finished (it's about 75 yards from the current location) and my other hives established. The new location is shown here. I have some small trees to cut first but no biggie. I have a pic of the current apiary location and also one of a busy Italian hive (the largest of my hives). These were all taken today (March 3).
Enjoy.
Bassman's Emerald Apiary (http://img178.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img178/4853/1204579492wjw.smil)
I enjoyed those photos and how the camera moves in like that. That was cool??
Healthy looking hive also.
Thanks for sharing
Annette
Thanks. That camera fade I didn't really want. It's part of Image Shack's slide show set up. I bet for some other things it would be really neat.
Bassman1977. I liked that little slide show, I thought the fading in and out was cool too. Very nice layout of the apiary, well done, have a great and wonderfully beautiful day, Cindi
This is my first hive. The area around it is dirt for now until I can get the clover planted.

Garden is far from finished ;) but thanks for nice comments.
Topbarslo. nICE pics!
You have lots of room to work too!
It sort of looks like a picnic grounds with the hives with the tops on them :)
What are the yellow wrappers on the bottom of the trees, to protect from your weedeater?
Also, what are the smaller boxes near some of the hives, Package bees?
Anyways, real nice! It looks like youre doing alot of work there...Must be a new place, huh?
your friend,
john
Theres nothing like a nice new white bee hive, huh Doublebee?
In a month or less I bet you're gonna have another one!
Tell us about the lattice. Whats fixing to be growing on it?
And, I spy a little red house next to the wall on the left of the pic. Is that a big birdhouse?
your friend,
john
Update: 2008
Over 200 hives 90% are on clipped 4 way pallets.
Here are some that were in the orange grove.

Weather permiting I will get pics of the other yards tomarrow. I'm getting ready to pull all the hives out of the melon fields and distribute them to all the outyards.

Yeah, I know it won't stay crisp white for long. :-D
I'd like to have another hive, but would probably put it at our mini farm.
I have to be careful not to have too much hive activity here at home.
Don't want neighbors complaining.
The lattice is just there to help hide the hive from the side street. I'd like to put some type of vine on it, maybe an autumn clematis?
Little red house is a decorative bird house. It's not functional, and I'm afraid some bees may decide to make a home there. I may have to move it somewhere else. :-\ I got to go, the cat's trying to help me type.
Great set-up! You must be knee deep in orange blossom honey.

Yea pretty big garden. I took land from wheat and corn field. I will start with some bee friendly agriculture next year on the whole field.
Yellow wrappers around trees are because of rabbits and my three cats that like to play with anything wood that stands out ;)
Those boxes were packages of bees I installed into top bar hives. Left it there for one day so that all bees find their new home. Next day all were empty and I removed those.
Yep new place. Like I said I took some land from corn and wheat for my bees :) and now I am planting all kinds of flowers, herbs and vegetables there.

Looking good. I see you got the flatbed on your truck.
My home yard from a couple of years ago. It's almost empty this week as I moved a bunch of hives to some vetch this weekend.
JP, not very much orange blossom this year. :( Matt, I can not imagine not having the flatbed now, it makes life a lot easier. How much honey did you guys pull in so far this year?
I got 6 gallons so far but expect that much or more again by the end of June. I could taste the orange in some of it. I got 4 gallons of very nice table quality wildflower honey and 2 gallons of some darker honey but it is still pretty good.
I had 3 hives, going into the flow. My best one swarmed about 6 weeks ago. Captured the swarm but that slowed down the honey production. That swarm though has just about filled a super now.
I now 4 hives and am considering some expansion but I need to start finding some place to keep them.
Nice setup!

What are the pictures of the trees and the hangy down white flowery things? I think this has been talked about, but can't pull it from those cobwebs of my mind. Yes it is, I have my jar feeder inside sitting over the hole in that cover, and then an empty super above it. Then the top. The other's are the same way, I just painted the edge of the covers on them.
