I downloaded a site from LSU Ag. site about making supers. They call a 6 5/8 a sallow super. However when I built 2 of them a 5 3/8 frame has 1 inch clearance at bottom . A medium frame has only 3/16 " clearance at the bottom.
How much is too much and how small is too small clearance at bottom of frames/
plans;http://text.lsuagcenter.com/NR/rdonlyres/2CDE8729-3039-4F65-BF84-D21D9397F6A2/16888/6324LowCostBeehive.pdf
beesource plans show 5 11/16".
I always use another factory box for measurements. of course everyone doesn't always have one at hand.
one inch is too much.

6 5/8" is NOT a shallow, it's a medium and takes 6 1/4" frames. A shallow is either 5 11/16" or 5 3/4".

And a Honey comb super is 5 1/2. If you want to use boxes built for honey comb as shallow supers you need to put a 1/4 or 3/8 shim on the bottom.
Thanks for the info. I only have 5 3/8 frames ready to use. I was searching for plans and found those above mentioned. I need to add something fairly soon.
Do you think I will have too much burr cone under neath with an 1 inch clearance?
I was trying to save some money as my nearest dealer is Paris Tx. and shipping is getting outrageous with fuel cost as they are.

You'll have as much extra comb as the extra space allows. An extra inch will just mean you'll wind up trimming and breaking comb when you pull those frames, might be a little cumbersome, a little messy, but it will work. I suggest you use them now, if that's all you have available. The flow will be in and out before you know it.

I know you will. About an inch of it. :)
