Title: Nucs In the Yard!!!
Post by: ccwonka on May 27, 2008, 12:24:14 AM
 :-D
I just picked up my two three frame nucs with russian/italian hybrids and put them out in the backyard!!!!!  I put a home-made screen thingee on the bottoms and a solid top on for the ride home in the back of the truck (just didn't like the idea of them blowing away), but removed it and put the 10-frame deeps on the screened bottom boards out in the backyard!  Some of the strays from where we put the nuc frames into my hive bodies were still clinging to the outside of the hive when we got back to Rome . . . But, what amazed me the most was how docile they were about being moved, even after a 1.25hr drive when I opened the bottoms up to put them on their boards practicaly NONE came out, they just kept up business as usual!

Guess with these girls it might be a while till I get my initiation sting, they were just as sweet as candy, even letting the beek I got them from brush them into the hive with his hands when they were in danger of getting squished by the lid!
