Title: Beeyard Monitoring
Post by: BeeHopper on May 28, 2008, 06:03:34 PM
I have been thinking about installing one of those Trail Cameras with Infrared Flash for night time monitoring of my beeyard, I have heard of hunters using them with great success. My beeyard is situated 1/4 mile off the main road on a semi-secured farm, but I feel my 10 hives are still vulnerable to theft. I am wondering if any Beeks here have employed such devices. Some of the cameras I am looking at have 6 megapixels for sharp pictures, might be good for IDing thieves or their vehicles  :)

just a thought I had a guy hunting my land a while back and I thought the best way to catch the guy was to set up some of these cameras to catch him in the act. well long story short the guy stole two of my cameras before the police caught him coming off my land with the 3rd. I had a 4th that actually caught a pic of him taking the 3rd. so that helped
moral of the story make sure you hide your cameras really well if they will steal your hives they will def steal your cameras
to answer your question yes they do work well

During deer season we use them, to capture deer but it should work.

We usually chain the cameras to the tree with a thick chain.

They also have GPS monitoring devices you can embed in frames. People might not look for them right away.
