Title: FYI Honeycomb Square
Post by: DayValleyDahlias on May 31, 2008, 12:43:29 AM
Noticed a square of honeycomb at our local grocer...you know the kind in the plastic box?  Maybe 4x4?  Price: $16.00  !!!  Whoa

That is just wonderful!!!

Let's get those prices up, we work hard for our bees, why not get paid well for our efforts. Prices have been too low for too long!

I totally agree with you JP on that, especially for this natural honey we get from the bees and we do not heat it and spoil the flavor like they do in the stores. I always felt it was worth more than 4-5 dollars a lb. I work so, so hard with the bees and no one would believe how much energy goes into this hobby.

How much should we charge for an 8 ounce jar of honey?

There you go Sharon.....Your bee tracks are showing!!!
What beekeeper in their right mind goes and looks at the honey prices at Walmart?...Or United,.....Or the heath food store?!
I bet you pick up the jars, hold them to the lite, and then say to your husband," Mines better'n this stuff!"
Uh,...Flashback.....Sorry Sharon,....Thats ME!!!
Anyways,...When someone asks me "How much?" I tell them 5$ for a 12 oz bottle.
I think thats not enough, but for me it doesnt matter..So far I have eaten or given mine away. I think I've sold 2 bottles :-\.....But the bottles are real pretty! with labels and everything!

your friend,
john

I have never sold honey...I have always made gifts of it...but it seems that I am acquiring quite a bit!

Seems as though around here honey is selling for anywhere from 5-8 for an 8 ounce jar!

$4.00 for an 8 ounce jar and $6.00 for a 1lber is what I charged last season.

^ I bet you pick up the jars, hold them to the lite, and then say to your husband," Mines better'n this stuff!" ^

That's what my wife does when we see honey on the shelf.  Except instead of "mine" it's "ours"

I typically charge $10.00 per quart but I am considering going up on price due to fuel cost. My F-150 is drinking the gas like it's going out of style.

Hang on a minute is it going out of style?

I've seen stores selling honey in the slim wine or vineger type bottles for $19 here in Atlanta. I would guess that the bottles hold around 20oz. I guess you can sell it for whatever you want. Getting someone to pay for it is the harder part.

What a great idea! It would look pretty & unusual & I have a ton of them from making herbed vinigars!  I don't think we could get $19 here but it would be great for people making goodie baskets & gifts!  That's what make this site so great, many minds & words come up w/helpful ideas for everyone!!  :-D Jody

I'm guessing that the beek got half of that, maybe a bit more.  For specialty foods, there is often a 50 to 100% mark-up.
