Title: Swarm cells
Post by: Mklangelo on June 06, 2008, 07:45:32 PM
I had the State Department of Agriculture out to inspect my hives.  As a matter of fact, they do it for free each spring and fall in Wisconsin.  Anyway, he looked for swarm cells but only in one place.  On the bottom of the upper brood frames, beneath the drone cells.

Will they not form these cells on the bottom of the lower frames?  (I have two deeps for brood chambers)

If I keep destroying any swarm cells I see will this, along with my recent placement of a super on each hive go far enough in swarm prevention?

Thanks!

PS. I don't want to do a split since by the time I got a queen, it would be too late.  I'm after some honey this year.

Mine had no swarm cells in the upper deep and they swarmed. You can remove all the swarm cells you want but that wont keep them from swarming if they are bent on swarming. I found this out the hard way   If you remove all the cells and they still swarm then it sets the hive further back.

Thanks Mike and CBEE for the replies.  I hope they hang on for one more week since wooden ware is not in the budget this week...
