Well, how does one know if there is a nectar flow?
The traffic in and out of the hive will increase significantly. The bees will appear to be in a hurry. You'll know.

When the traffic in front of the hive gets to the point you think it might be a swarm, but it proves not to be, just foragerrs coming and going, you're in a flow.
