Title: Pickle barrel full of bees
Post by: asprince on June 30, 2008, 08:21:23 PM
I got a call early this morning from a lady that had a swarm of bees move into an old wooden pickle barrel that was stored under her car port. The bung was open in the side and they moved in. She said they moved in yesterday afternoon, so they have no stores. I am going to feed them some syrup for now and cut them out this weekend. She put duct tape over the hole late last night. I just picked up the barrel and brought them home. Based on the activity, I think it is a nice size.

And it's about time! I registered my name with the GA extension agents office last summer. Since then I have gotten several bee calls. ALL were in hollow trees or very difficult cut outs. Some were yellow jackets and one was just foraging bees on a blooming shrub outside of an office on Robbins Air Force Base. Ladies in the office were afraid they were going to get stung and wanted to know if I would come and remove the bees.
