Title: Does Comb Honey have a Shelf Life?
Post by: MrILoveTheAnts on July 02, 2008, 07:43:13 PM
I see wax eventually drys out and becomes flaky when left to the elements. Does comb honey stored in a container or in jars of honey ever "go bad"?

Nope.  My parents still have some from about 5 years ago, stored in the refrigerator.  Tastes the same as the day we got it.

If I remember correctly honey acts as an excellent super saturated sugar preservative and also has other antibacterial/antimicrobial qualities in it's raw form.  Anything immersed in honey should be preserved for a very long time.

Nope, it doesn't work.  I tried immersing my gas money in honey, but the gas station still took it.   :-D

It will crystallize, not that that is a problem for personal use.  I've never tried to decrystallize comb honey but I'd imagine its tricky.

I store mine in the freezer, just have to make sure that its sealed well if long term so as to not get the freezer taste on it.  Although I did have a frame by itself in there for a while and it didn't get any funny tastes.
