Title: Sugar recycling?
Post by: madscientist on July 07, 2008, 02:59:32 PM
I'm back to feeding again after our main flow here in order to build up more comb for next year.  I hope to draw out several supers per colony.  Apart from the one super of capped sugar per colony that I will leave them for the winter, what do I do with the other supers containing sugar?  Can I extract it and feed it to them again?  Is there a down side to this?  Will cured sugar water last longer in a bucket without fermenting?

if you have freezer room, layer the frames with with wax paper between, and freeze.  you can thaw and return the entire frame to the hive as needed.

Ahh, but I would like to empty those frames for the bees to fill with nectar next year.  I also thought there might be a possible cost savings if I could use the extracted sugar water as feed.
