Title: Do you have a favorite honey/crock pot recipe?
Post by: twb on July 12, 2008, 10:18:05 AM
We have to feed 20 people and want to use a crock pot and serve something with honey in it.  The internet is filled with recipes to the point of being overload.  We are thinking of a chicken and/or pasta based main dish.  Simple and tasty is the key.  Suggestions?  Thanks.

I don't have a recipe but just had a thought (scary thing these thoughts!!) reading your post.  Grill some chix, cut into chunks or strips, make a sauce w/cornstarch, chix broth, garlic lemon or lime juice & zest, sweeten w honey?? Dump it in the pot to blend flavors Would look pretty & taste great.  Would have to keep the crock pot on low so's not to scorch..have rice to go with, or even pasta. Hmm, I might just try this! 8-)  Jody

I don't have a crock-pot recipe (I don't cook, hopefully you'll get more good suggestions on that) - but - if you want another simple way for everyone to enjoy your honey (perhaps for the 2nd time of the meal) get ice-cream for dessert and drizzle loads of raw honey over it as a topping (sort of like caramel, only better!).  If it's hot there it'll surely be a pleaser (& it's easy).

Dane, that is good!  I don't have my own honey yet so have to use the crud from Costco.  I'm now dreaming of how good it will be w/my own!  Honey Latte's & Italian sodas are great too!  Jody

I find seasonings cook out a lot of time in a crock pot, so I like to add seasonings during the middle and near the end.

Try mustard, wasabi powder and honey with seasoning, mustard and chicken go really well together, I like a lil kick and the wasabi or hot sauce would give you that, the honey would sweeten things a bit and add some nice flavor as well.

I know you mentioned the crock pot but here's an idea that may make life easier as well, season the chicken and wrap in foil the night before, place in frig, and bake in the morning in the oven @ about 375f for about 30-40 minutes.

Serve on a big platter buffet style with a salad and don't forget the veggies, like corn on the cob, which you could foil and cook in the oven as well or sweet potatoes.

And great idea with honey on the ice cream Dane.

Thanks y'all,  I really hated to bring up a cooking question but my wife was quite enthusiastic about some of your suggestions :).  Thanks again.
