Post by: JordanM on July 20, 2008, 08:36:14 PM
Here it is my first 16 oz. bottle of pure Michigan honey, does anyone know what it could have came from it is a very light color?

All i have to do is get my labels from Mann, which are on backoreder and stick them on and figure out a price to sell it for.

 It looks GREAT!
I would kinda figure that honey would be very lite from feeding alot of syrup, but my first year i fed them almost all summer and my honey was darker last year than it is this year.

Nope i never fed these bees. I extracted a whole medium super and got 24 16 oz. bottles and 5 8 oz. ones and i ran out of jars, so i ordered more from betterbee and will have to bottle the remaing 8 jars of honey when i get the jars. Ya, ive never seen honey this lite.  :)

That is very pretty honey, unusual so light! Congratulations!  Hoping to get at least 1 small jar for me, even though it is my 1st year. The blackberry is in full swing right now.   Like Kathy, what does it taste like??  Jody

I had a little honey from Tulip Poplar and Locust that was that light.  But what it lacked in color, it made up for in taste!

I think it might be basswood, since it has a little minty taste at the end.

locust has a slight minty taste too, and is very lite colored. Its wildflower honey and be proud no matter what forage is in it! The first jar is always the sweetest honey ever.

The second bottle may taste so much better that the first bottle becomes second or third fiddle!

It still has that first bottle status though, kinda like the first dollar you earn, or the first customer of a new business.  Sure you'll make more money later, and there are more profitable customers, but there's always a special place in your heart for that first one.

The BEST honey is right out of the burr comb, still warm!!!

The second best is when you get it in the bottle.

I still prefer the later summer honey(clover, knapweed) over the early summer honey (linden).  You'll see. (and have to decide yourself what you like best)

PS my first bottle of honey was from goldenrod.  Definiately not the best, unless you like dirty gym socks!!!  I do remember it well, though.

If you look at it like that, he should just frame the dang thing then!!!

If we wanted it framed, he'd just give it back to the bees.   :-D   ;)   :-\

Ok, bad pun.

Yep, there will be an empty jar up there pretty soon, but that's a good thing, since you'll be needing more empty jars to put the honey in soon.   :-D

I still had a gallon of honey left over after filling all my jars, so i put it in a milk jug and went and ordered 8 cases of 12 bottles that are getting here tuesday. Then i can finish bottling it up.  :)
