Title: contaminated Wax
Post by: Pond Creek Farm on July 20, 2008, 11:06:01 PM
I have seen multiple references to the wax supply (in reference to commercially available wax foundation) being contaminated by chemicals.  I understand that homogonized wax from multiple sources can become contaminated, and I am presuming that foundationless beekeeping is a method for avoid this contamination.  What I do not understand is how this will prevent contamination?  How do I see to it that my wax is not contaminated?  I can see to it that I do not introduce any chemicals, but I cannot control the entire forage area of the bees.

You can keep chemicals like check mite and camaphous out of your hives and trading out old combs helps keep contamination levels reduced greatly.

Foundation is contaminated.  If you don't use any and you don't add contaminates then the only source is what the bees bring back from the fields which should be minimal.
