Title: Is it too late to add a super of foundation?
Post by: twb on August 08, 2008, 07:46:19 PM
I have just painted wax on a couple of supers worth of plastic foundations.  Golden rod flow is just ready to start and I have a  bit of white sweet clover and lots of bird's foot trefoil blooming.  Mite counts have been very low, so could I see how the bees like my painting and add a super to a couple of strong hives without doing any damage?  Small hive beetles are present now, so that would be my main concern, as well as wondering if four to six weeks is enough time at this time of year to draw out, fill and cap ten medium frames.  Thoughts?

I don't think so.  I added a super to each of my hives two days ago.  They are already drawing it out.  One hive has 3 frames finished.  I didn't think there was much of a flow going on, but apparently there is.

The fall flow is just starting here.  They might make another crop yet.
