One of my hives has a drone laying queen and the hive is getting noticeably weaker (It swarmed in late June and the virgin queen is the drone layer). It started some supersede cells a week and a half ago but no development on my last inspection. Does anyone know of a source for Mid-August Queens? I'd prefer someone form a northern climate but would look at others.

Check out www.cedarglenbees.com They had lots of queens available last time I checked. They're in Washington State.

I would not recommend cedar glen bees, although they are in WA, they are just reselling queens from other breeders. I have had bad luck with them in the past...
if you want west coast bees go with old sol enterprises in rogue river, OR. I just ordered queens from northernqueens.com so can't report back yet, but they are nearer to you
Have you considered uniting it with another colony?

Cedarglenbees is just down the road here from me. 45 minutes via back country roads. That's where I get my packages when I buy them. Nice Folks. If you go there you have to watch out for 2 things, don't trip over the beehives and duck when the guy on the fairway yells fore. They live beside the Kayak Point Golf and Country Club.

I agree with the price of equipment but I was talking about the cost of bees and queens. They get their equipment through Bushy Mountain and pay close to catalog price and then mark it up. I'd say their only savings is in quantity puchases. I don't buy my equipment from any of the local outlets because of the markup, I can buy direct from the manufacturer, pay shipping, and still by it for less than going across town. Belliville Honey (aka Lang's Honey) in Burlington is a Mann Lake rep so the prices reflect that and I race pigeons with the owner.
I don't know about the drone layers but the way and length of time Cedar Glen Bees banks his queens makes it highly probable.
By all means, if you are in the area, and need a queen, cedar glen bees may be a good option. the original post is by someone far from their location and I just don't think that it would be a wise choice to order a queen from them because: the queen was already shipped from a breeder to them, then stored in a box in their kitchen with minimal nurse bees for an unknown period of time, and then will be shipped out to you. makes much more sense to buy from someone raising queens them self in your area.
cost on queens is around the going rate, but because of my my own experiences with them I will be ordering queens from elsewhere
