Title: Got Brix?
Post by: utahbeekeeper on August 12, 2008, 12:50:17 PM
I have been confident in our high desert honey and its low moisture moisture content, but was always curious.  I had thought that a serviceable refractometer was $200.00.  WRONG   I just received a unit from an EBAY store  National Industrial Supply  (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Heavy-Duty-0-32-ATC-Brix-Refractometer-CNC_W0QQitemZ320283039248QQihZ011QQcategoryZ31483QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262) and like it very much.  I thought I would pass along that link.  Cost $60.00 and $8.00 shipping which was not the cheapest, but not high end lab quality either.  It measures water % in half percent increments which is more than I need.  Nice heavy feel, seems well built and will be a pleasure to pass along to kids or grand kids with bee hives and well used wooden soap molds when I pass over the fence to better pastures!

Oh, sampled both harvests and it was at 16.5%  That'll work.
