Title: Swarm Question
Post by: Gregg on August 17, 2008, 09:18:43 AM
Yestarday , I was out disking my corn field 2 ac and got off for a nature call and as I was standing there at the edge of the woods, I heard bee's in the trees. Upon looking I found a swarm in a hollow tree about 12 ft off the ground, bee's flying in and out and a cluster around the hole. Is there a way to catch this swarm? I talked to a local beekeeper with more experience and he said leave them for next spring for he didn't think they would swarm again this yr. What would the experts on here do? I don't have a brood chamber extra. Tell me what you would do if you found a swarm this time of yr?
Thanks

Unless you will be cutting the tree down, I would not try and get the bees from this tree, next spring place some swarm traps 50-100 yards from the tree, there's a good chance you may catch a swarm or two from this tree, bees in a tree are a good thing.
