I have two wooden hive top feeders I bought from Brushy. Is there any coating I can safely put on the inside of the feeder; i.e. a plastic coating or fiberglass resin? A lot of the syrup is absorbed by the wood making it hard to clean. I checked my feeders the other day and it appears there is mold or something growing on the inside. Thanks.......Steve
I searched this a couple weeks ago and found someone using polyurethane clear coat. That is what I did with my Miller-type feeder. I need to drip wax into it now to seal the big cracks well. Since it is on top and covered in syrup they should not smell it to the point to leaving?
You used a polyurethane varnish like they use on hardwood floors?
Clear polyurethane. Varnish is an old name and I think it may be different than poly. Surely, someone else can come in on this and help us. Search for "poly" or "polyurethane".
